Zophar Steps Down
Well, I'm sure you've heard by now, Zophar has stepped down as the owner of Zophar's Domain. Well, only 9 more days and I will have outlasted Zophar :) heh. We both started out sites almost at the same time, and were influenced by the same site: Node 99.
Anyway, I think his reason for leaving is a good one. It is nearly impossible to go to school full time and run a site like that. I tried it, and trust me, it doesn't work. And emulation just isn't what it was in the "good old days" 3-4 years ago. I know it doesn't have the same significance to me anymore. It has become way too commercial. It's just like how the MP3 scene started to suck when napster arrived, and it became popular. Emulation was cool back when almost noone even knew about it. Now days, nearly everyone is in it for the money and the recognition. So maybe it is a good time for Zophar, and people from the old scene, who actually know what the real meaning of emulation is, to leave and let others take over. Really, the emulation scene started to go down hill when UltraHLE arrived. No true retrogaming fan will care about N64, or emulation of newer systems. The only people that care about that are pirates - the real people that hurt the scene, and cause Nintendo, Sega, and Sony to get pissed off.
It's too bad to see him leave, but it's probably for the better. His site doesn't seem like what it was a year ago. So maybe swampgas will be able to resurect it. I really don't think that it will ever be the same though. No matter how many staff members they are able to get to work on it, it just won't be the same. Anyway, good luck to Zophar and whatever he goes on to.
It seems like a lot of people are leaving the scene lately. I'll probably keep doing this site for at least 3 more years. As long as emulationworld will continue to host the site. Unless someone out there wants to offer me $10,000 to take over? :) I wish.

Sega Interviews
Eidolon's Inn has a new Special Feature with recent interviews with several sega emulator authors. It's really a pretty cool feature if you are into sega (which I am, more than any other system). Too bad they didn't get an interview with Zoop. Check it out though.

Cool Stuff
Techbargains actually posted the news I sent about that MP3 watch, which is pretty funny. Check out the site though. It is one of my new favorites that I actually visit every day. I've found some great deals there.
Also, check out WWF Raw on the 18th. RPGRealm said he'd advertise my site on one of his posters. He will be on the 8th row right in front of the camera too I think :) A cool prize to the person who digitally records it for me :)

Confidential Atari Docs
I can't remember this being posted on any news sites, so you may be interested in checking out this site. It has several confidential Atari company documents. Aparently some guy got file cabinets full of documents from the Atari division in Ireland. I can't really verify if they are real or not, but some of the stuff is interesting to read, especially if you are into Atari stuff. Check out the site for more info.

MP3 Watch
Here is the latest cool MP3 player at computergeeks. It is an MP3 Watch, with 32 MB of Memory. It's made by Casio, so you know it will be high quality. I still have a cool remote control watch by casio that I got several years ago, and it still works. The only downside to the watch is that it is $247. Still, it is a pretty cool idea.

Cheap 30 GB Hard Drive
I actually found this deal a few days before one of those techdeals sites. I received my Quantum Fireball PLUS LM 30 GB hard drive today. This thing is fast at 7200 RPM. It seems like Windows shuts down instantly now... when before it used to take 10+ seconds. And it loads up at least 10 or 20 seconds faster... it's amazing.
The drive is a good deal, at around $107 after a coupon, a rebate, and the shipping charge. That is over $60 cheaper than I can buy a 30 GB 7200 RPM drive around here at the "cheap" computer store.
First, you will need this rebate for $30:
http://www.quantum.com/quantum/promos/030700_rebate_form.htm
Then, enter the buy.com site here to get the $30 off coupon. And then go to Item #10243355.
If you are looking for a cheap, nice, fast, big hard drive, check this out. The odd thing is, that it didn't come with a manual or anything. Just the hard drive... It makes me wonder.. But so far it has worked just fine.

Zsnes 1.000
Finally, some interesting emulation news. Zsnes 1.000 has been released. Zsnes is, in my opinion, the best SNES emulator. It was the emulator, like genecyst, nesticle, UltraHLE, and MEKA, which took the emulation of that system to a new level. If any of you remember old crap like VSMC, Super Pasofami you would know what I mean. zsKnight is leaving emulator programming also. Zsnes will probably become open source.. but I'm not sure if more advances can be made... It is nearly complete, and it is in assembler.. Anyway, go download it.

Free Cool Stuff
I noticed while visiting techbargains.com (one of my new favorite sites) that Infomarkets.com is giving away free stuff when you refer "experts" to their site. Refer 5 people and recieve an infomarkets.com T-shirt; 15 people and win an Aiwa XP-SP90 Discman; 30 people and win a Palm V Organizer! The top 3 referers each month receive a Macintosh iBook Special Edition as part of their "Bring in the Brains" Contest. This looks good, so Check It Out. Also, as an "expert", you get money for answering questions.
Oh yeah, here is something that will make you think twice about spam. Snail mail spam at least. I was opening up some junk mail yesterday, and there was a crisp new dollar bill inside. Pretty cool. This will make you think twice about throwing away junk mail before opening it..heh. They sent me the dollar as an incentive for completing an online survey.. Heh, I guess a dollar wasn't enough, because I didn't do it..
